COVID -19: FURTHER UPDATE FOR 2020 EXAMINATION CANDIDATES.

Further to our earlier statement, we have now heard from Kaplan, our examination centre provider, via their Executive Board, and they have told us that , as at today, Monday 2nd November, their position is that the new restrictions do not change their previous position materially and so they will continue to work with us and provide the examinations in all the relevant centres specified in England and Scotland as previously planned. We can also confirm Exam Centres in Belfast, Edinburgh and Leeds will also be providing JIEB examinations on 10 and 11 November as well as the Kaplan centres.

We are sure our candidates and tutors will welcome this clarification. Nevertheless, we shall continue to monitor the situation over the coming days and immediately update our website if there are any further changes.

We also, as a Board, recognise that some candidates may feel uneasy on a personal level at travelling to, or undertaking,  an examination in these challenging times. Therefore, if any candidate communicates directly to the ICAEW Secretariat by 4pm on Friday 6th November that they do not wish to sit their examinations this year, we are prepared to allow them to carry forward their entry to the 2021 sitting without further charge.  If you wish to defer to 2021, please email applications@icaew.com quoting your record number and name and state that you wish to defer from the November 2020 JIEB session.

If any candidate then displays COVID or other illness symptoms after this Friday but before the examinations , they will similarly be allowed to carry forward their entry but only on submission of satisfactory medical evidence.

Clearly, given the hard work and dedication of those studying this year, we are sure that it will be a relief that the examinations are still scheduled to proceed and for all those who will sit the examinations we wish them every success.

Chairman of the Joint Insolvency Examination Board
